Education on the Technological Highway: Red Light/Green Light |

On February 12, 2009 BCASCD & the Coquitlam Teachers’ Association put on an exciting dinner evening debating Education on the Technological Highway: Red Light/Green Light. I think it would be safe to say that even the most reluctant user of technology left the evening realizing that we are experiencing rapid advancement in technology and that there is no better time than the present to engage in a rich dialogue with colleagues about how we proceed. ASCD Annual Conference –Well worth attending! |

The ASCD 2009 annual conference titled, “Learning Beyond Boundaries” was held in Orlando Florida, in March 2009. The very popular annual conference brought together more than 8000 educators who all had an opportunity to explore the big relevant topics in education. Few ideas about teachers' professional growth resonate with me more than those of Richard Elmore, professor of educational leadership at Harvard, who has gone as far as to argue that school structures make learning for adults unlikely at best and nothing short of impossible at worst. Student-Driven Research

When students gather and analyze data about their school, everyone learns something.
Few students are typically around at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Crawford High School Educational Complex in San Diego, California, home of four autonomous small schools. Wednesday is a "late start" day: School begins at 9:00 a.m., and teachers, administrators, and counselors spend the early-morning hours discussing various school matters. [read more...] |
